Attuning to Purpose with Flynne Olivarez
How building relationships with plants includes building relationships with ourselves and each other
Sat May 30: 11am-3pm
Location: Unity Farm (address and directions to be emailed to participants)
What to expect
During our time together, we will expand into the big picture of what it means to build relationships with plants, land, and each other through the practice of working with herbs. Flynne will provide prompts to get us thinking about our compass to this work, our ancestry as it connects to this work, as well as share pieces of her journey working with and growing plants. We will sit with plants of our choosing and share observations. We will also weave stories together of our own experience with plants and how they show up for us, especially when we need them.
Key Learning Goals
(1) connecting with plants as sentient beings
(2) reflecting on our own inspirations to do this work
(3) connecting with each other so as to remember how much community and reciprocity should be a part of any healing work
Flynne, she/her, of mariquita medicinals, is a queer, mixed race land tender, community herbalist, flower arranger, seed-saver, bird spotter, posole guzzler, sun worshipper, moon gazer, altar builder, bath lover, aspiring abolitionist and seeker of stories and ritual connecting to her Mexican, Apache and Sicilian roots.
Mariquita Medicinals is a local queer and BIPOC owned small scale herb and flower farm, small batch apothecary and community herbalist and floral arts practice.
The values she brings into the farm, herbal and community work, are integrity, interdependence, accountability, ritual, and an evolving dedication to growth. Her family’s ancestry comes from Mexico, Sicily, and Apache and Tigua land in NM and TX. She is blessed to continue uncovering more about her ancestors as she tends land and builds community.
Flynne believes that all of us can and should have access to natural and ancestral ways of healing and ceremony that allow us to lessen our grip on capitalism when it comes to taking care of ourselves and each other.
