Plants of Protection with Andrea Thompson
Physical, Energetic and Ritual Use
Location: TBA
Sun Aug 30, 11am-3pm
What to expect
There are a myriad of ways that cultures across the globe have used plants to create sacred space and ward off negative energy. Protection against illness, dis-ease, and negative energy isn't woo, it's life. These common ancient practices have been used in ceremony, in the home, and on the body to maintain boundaries and a sense of well-being. We often continue to do this today unknowingly via burning incense in the home or wearing a favorite scent to boost our confidence.
This class will support you in remembering the ancestral practices in your lineage to work intentionally with plants for clearing, protection, and boundaries. We'll discuss some of the ways we currently support ourselves while diving a bit deeper into ways we may not have worked with. You'll leave class with a "clearing" spray with the herbs that choose to work with you.
Key Learning Goals
(1) Remembering the wisdom and power that plants hold and how to honor them in ritual practices.
(2) Reclaiming traditional practices for support in your emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.
(3) Making the mundane magical by using simple tools like body oiling or sipping tea as a protective practice.
Andrea Thompson is a native to Oregon, lover of magic, tinkering herbalist and dancer at heart. She has shared and held ritual space in various magical workshops, embodiment events and at Soul Revival Ecstatic Dance for BIPOC. She cultivated her practice of holding space for others through her 25+ years of Massage Therapy experience in which she deeply listens to what each individual’s body is asking for and what old stories are ready to be released in that precise moment versus going with a specific protocol. Having always felt connected to plants, she uses them in ritual, medicine, cooking, and teaches others how to use them in Pelvic Steams. Her studies in the 2022 herbalism cohort of Atabey allowed her to deeply embraced her desire to share the medicines that she was making and more about plants to her community at large.
